SINGING LESSONS

Picture

Paloma offers both regular and casual singing lessons. You can attend in person in Waterloo, Lower Hutt, or Wellington, or learn online via Zoom from anywhere in New Zealand or around the world. If you're interested in having a lesson, please email [email protected] with your preferred days and times to be added to the waiting list.

I am dedicated to helping people discover their voice and enjoy singing, whether they are complete beginners
or seasoned professionals. Everyone deserves the freedom to express themselves through their voice and to feel themselves smile every time they sing. I understand that singing can be a challenging or self-critical experience
for some, but I know that joy can be found again, even if it has been lost or never experienced.
Rediscover that joy and be amazed by what you can achieve. There is so much beautiful music in the world
to enjoy singing!

WHAT I TEACH

I teach singing inspired by the many wonderful teachers and coaches I have learned from throughout my journey. I recently completed Levels I-III of Somatic Voicework™ in 2021 and 2022, founded by Jeannette LoVetri, and have taken a refresher Level II course in June 2025. Many of my former teachers were trained in the Italian and/or Swedish schools of singing.

Having studied with a variety of instructors and experienced different teaching methods, I bring a rich blend of knowledge to my lessons. My goal is to share insights that will benefit singers for a lifetime, not just in the moment. I focus on helping singers master their own voices and enhance their vocal development. My approach encourages singers to understand and develop control of their voices and physicality rather than merely imitating what they hear. This way, they can cultivate a strong, reliable voice that they can trust and enjoy.

MUSIC GENRES/WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC
I assist singers in developing healthy vocal techniques that are suitable for their specific genre or style, allowing them to fully enjoy singing the music they love. My students sing a variety of genres, including opera and classical music, musical theatre, choral music, folk, jazz, original songwriting, indie, pop, and rock.

BEGINNERS
Paloma enjoys sharing her passion for singing, especially with adults who have been told they can't sing. The truth is, very few people truly can't sing; most just need to learn how! Taking a lesson is the first step, and many students find it a huge relief to have their questions answered right from the start. The more questions, the better! Join the many people around the world who sing regularly and have fun while doing it!

PROFESSIONAL/EXPERIENCED SINGERS
Paloma has had the privilege of coaching many professional singers, including opera performers and recording artists. She regularly helps singers prepare for auditions, and her students have successfully gained admission to prestigious music conservatories and universities, such as the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (UK), Massey University's Jazz School, and the Wales International Academy of Voice.

Paloma also has taught graduates from notable institutions like the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, as well as the NZ School of Music and Canterbury University. Her students have showcased their talents with NZ Opera, the Orpheus Choir of Wellington, and even performed at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

In addition to her teaching, Paloma has provided coaching and support to singers during recording sessions and has assisted professional actors on location shoots.

TEENAGERS & CHILDREN
Paloma mostly teaches singers who are 15 and older, but she's also open to working with motivated singers as young as 10, especially if they are already performing. Even if someone is too young for regular lessons, having a check-in now and then can be really helpful to ensure their voice is working well and isn't feeling tense or experiencing any issues.

SINGERS WITH VOCAL PROBLEMS
Paloma is truly dedicated to helping singers who are facing technical challenges or feeling stuck in their growth. She has a strong track record of assisting those who struggle to stay in tune, as well as experienced singers looking to sing with less tension and greater control.

Some common issues Paloma addresses include tension in the tongue and jaw, confusion about proper singing posture, different breathing techniques, clarity of diction, and problems with resonance and projection. She has successfully guided both amateur and professional singers in recovering from vocal nodules and polyps, helping them regain their voices and sing healthily after an illness.

There's no need to feel embarrassed or alone when facing difficulties. With the right guidance and support, you can navigate these challenges and embark on the journey to rediscover your voice. Paloma is excited to accompany you on this new vocal adventure!
