Free Sheet Music:

(Mainly Classical and Folk Music)

Important!: Please check with all the following free public domain sites that the music is not copyright in the NZ as copyright laws are different in each country. Please visit the website below and familiarize yourself with the copyright law so that you know what you can and can't do.

This is a nice explanation of copyright law in NZ: Who owns the copyright?

Australasian Copyright Law in more detail: www.MusicRights.com.au

Music Publishers Association Website: The Code of Fair Practice

If a musical work is in copyright (which it will be if any of the composers, editors or authors have not been dead for more than 70 years, or if the printed edition has been published in the last 25 years, whichever is the longer) then copying the work and/or arranging it are infringements of the copyright unless the person doing so has either gained permission from the copyright owner to do so, or if they fall under any of the exceptions to the rule listed in the code. The Code of Fair Practice has been agreed between composers, publishers and users of Printed Music.

IMSLP/Petrucci Music Library: Free Public Domain Sheet Music

Important!: Please check that the music is not copyright in the UK as UK copyright laws differ from the USA.

Their former website Schubertline is still functioning until May 2016 and still has subscriptions available for purchase which are really worthwhile if you have an economical printer and lots of paper! Here is the link to the former website where you can view sheet music and transpose for free: Schubertline

Everynote: The World's Largest Classical Sheet Music Library

Don't know if it's the biggest library, IMSLP probably is?, but is good way to get a classical score quickly especially if it's something obscure that would take a while to order.

Backing Track (Karaoke) Resources:

For popular music and some classical music I usually recommend you check ITunes first as you get real value for money.

Sites like Musicroom also have backing tracks available for purchase as well as sheet music.

Karaoke-Version.co.uk

A great backing track website with reasonable prices, and the best thing is that you can get a small variety of different keys (warning: the demo singers are sometimes questionable).
